BATTLE OF BASH APARAN took place on May 23-29, in 1918. During the battle of Sardarapat (1918), the Turkish command decided to send the 9th division to Bash Aparan, trying to attack Yerevan from the north and to reach the rear of counterattacking Armenian forces in Sardarapat and cut their way from Yerevan.  In order to prevent the Turkish plan the Armenian command sent urgent forces (about 6000) to Bash Aparan led by Dro.

Armenian regular troops had great support from not only Armenian, but also from Yezidi home guard headed by Jahangir Agha. During the battles the Turkish invaders were fully defeated and driven out to the west of Bash-Aparan. The Battle of Bash Aparan along with the battle of Sardarapat and battle of Gharakilisa played an important role in preventing the invasion of Turkish troops on Yerevan and Ararat Valley.
